Even three years after her death, Calhoun Middle School students continue to celebrate the memory of Krista Wilson.
"We dedicated a tree to a former student of Calhoun that passed away from cancer," said Katherine Reed, a teacher at the Denton school. "Her name is Krista Wilson. She passed away on Christmas Eve 2001. So this year we commemorated her memory with planting a tree on the school grounds and the students planned a tree ceremony. They created the flyer and we invited her parents and family to come."
Student Kristi Wilde assisted with the ceremony. "There's an award given every year for any eighth grade girl who maintains her grades," said Kristi of the Krista Wilson Award. "There's requirements that need to be met. At the end of the year, teachers vote on that award. It should be looked forward to by eighth grade girls to get that."
Krista's fourteen years of life left students with a path of leadership and character for them to follow.
