Denton Democratic Downfall
by Russell Ashby / Reporter

VIDEO: NTTV's Russel Ashby reports (4.2MB)

There's a dying breed in this state: the Texas Democratic Party. But in a little building full of tiny office spaces, the Denton County Democratic Party keeps going on in hopes of winning big. "I'm hoping that we wont hear anymore comments in the future from people thinking they're the only democrat in the county," said Denton County Democratic Chair Edra Bogle.

She and other democratic party workers want to convince Denton democrats that although they might be conservative, they're still democrats at heart. "They must come to realize that their views really coincide with the democratic views rather than the republican views," said Bogle.

Their hard work might pay off come March 9. The county office is getting more volunteers and calls this year than in the past. "Right now, we're down to 40 precincts that need to be assigned callers," said democratic party worker Lonnan French. "That's well over half."

While the workers are fighting to gain more voters, there's another power that could keep the party from winning -- a republican President from Texas. "I think that everyone will unite around whoever our nominee is," said Bogle. "That includes a lot of people who were formally greens or republicans that have been phoning our office, volunteering to work, and doing everything they can to get that man (Bush) out of office."
