Texas Western Slips By Eagles, 14-13

A desperation pass-and-run play cost North Texas it's first loss to a Texas team since 1954 as Texas Western slipped by the Eagles, 14-13.

The Flock combined a driving offense with a brick-wall defense to dominate the statistical columns only to be cut down in the final closing minutes.

Quarterback Ray Toole put the Eagles in front in the first quarter when he scampered fifty-four yards to the Miner 9-yard line. One play later he cut over left guard to score.

North Texas scored again when Leon King pulled in a 37-yard pass from J. N. Wright.

The first Miner score was on pass interception by Don Maynard who returned it 48 yards for the score. With three minutes remaining, Maynard hauled in the tell-tale pass. Both extra point attempts were good.
