Hinkle Paces In Final StatisticsThe most rebounds captured by a North Texas player in a single game totaled sixteen. Holder of this mark is Ray Toole, senior from Troup. Other leaders on the squad were Ken Ward and Don Cummins, two sophomores who finished second and third respectively in scoring. Ward rang up 198 points while Cummins accounted for 131. Cummins was also the second leading rebounder behind Rainbolt with 127 to his credit. Seasonal statistics are considerably lower than those of opponents. North Texas scored a total of 1,243 points in twenty one games while opponents recorded 1,724. This represents an average of 59.2 points per game by the Eagles and 82.4 per game by the opposition. The Eagles lack of height was apparent as they were out-rebounded 969-800. Kenneth Hinkle led the eagles in scoring for the second straight year as he netted 298 points on 116 field goals and sixty six free throws. Hinkle, a junior from Pampa, hit thirty-six per cent of his shots from the floor and nearly seventy-six per cent from the charity line. He also led individual scoring in a single game by sinking twenty four points against Hardin-Simmons. Hinkle was listed on the pre-season all-conference second team and finished twelfth in loop scoring. He will return next year to work for his third letter as spark plug in the Eagle offense. Leading rebounder on the North Texas squad was James Rainbolt, 6-foot 5-inch junior from Fort Worth. He snagged 144 rebounds throughout the season for an average of 6.9 rebounds per game.
