NT Eagles Sneak by Houston 7-6Although North Texas scored on its first match with the ball against Houston, the Eagles found themselves in the unfamiliar role of having to play a full 60 minutes before winning the game. It was the perfect placement of Morris Rose early in the first quarter that made the difference in the 7-6 decision. But at the time, this was probably the last thing in the minds of some 12,000 spectators. The Eagles took the opening kickoff and marched 63 yards in 12 plays to score. Similarly, Houston took the Eagle kickoff on their 36, and 13 plays later Ken Bolin slid over the visitors' goal. The Cougars, seemingly content with an early tie, elected to kick the conversion, but the attempt was no good. Cole directed the Eagles deep into Cougar territory on two more occasions, but nothing materialized. Once the Houston defense failed to yield the yard needed for a first down, and Cole was jarred loose from the ball inside the eight. The Yucca, 1960 |
