Homecoming Flock Rips Wichita

A 12-0 Homecoming victory over Wichita gave the Eagles their seventh win this season and tied the NT record for consecutive victories at nine.

A crowd of 14,000 watched Abner Haynes, running on a sprained ankle, score twice on almost identical runs and gave North Texas at least a piece of the Missouri Valley conference crown.

On the slimy Fouts field turf, the Eagle offensive machine could never really get rolling. However, the offense and defense both proved themselves adequate to the situation. North Texas could gain only 266 yards against the Shockers on the ground and 37 in the air, but held Wichita to 138 running yards and 87 air yards.

The only real Shocker threat came in the first period after the first Eagle score. Ted Dean led his team from its own 26 to the North Texas eleven before the Eagle green unit stalled the march and pushed the Shockers back.
