A near upset is in the making as the Eagles hold powerful Memphis State to a close decision.

A 19-6 triumph over Texas Western in the season opener would have been a suitable place-setter, but the next week, a powerful Memphis State team edged the Eagles in a 14-6 near upset.

Hardin-Simmons, however, was no match for the Eagles, who won 29-8. This marked the 26th straight defeat of the Cowboys, nearing a national record.

The first Missouri Valley Conference encounter shattered the Eagles' composure as a mighty passing attack by the Tulsa Hurricane crushed NTSU 34-0.

Homecoming arrived with some speculation. Having lost two games on alternate weekends, the Eagles were eager to put North Texas in the winning column.
