Players in uniform host Coach Mitchell up on their shoulders.
This doesn't happen very often, but then West Texas is not upset very often. Jubilant team members show their appreciation to Coach Mitchell for his guidance.

Fur flies, Eagles soar

Before 14,000 fans, the Eagles held off a late Cincinnati rally and defeated the Bearcats 14-8, extending the string of Homecoming victories to six straight.

The jubilation was short-lived. The next week in University Park, New Mexico State blasted North Texas 48-12.

On the Road Trip, some 300 North Texans saw the Eagles nip Wichita 9-7, relying on Price's place-kicking ability.

The surprise of the year hit Denton the following week. Not only did the Eagles win their second game in a row, but they upset highly favored West Texas.

A winning season was in store for the Eagles, despite losing the following week to Louisville. In the finale, the Eagles overran Southern Illinois 55-30.
