Tech, Eagles dominate 12th annual relays

Lamar Tech grabbed six first places, but an inspired North Texas team stole the show at the 12th running of the North Texas Relays as the Eagles won an unexpected five blue ribbons.

Led by record-breaking Calvin Bowser's 228 feet, 1 inch heave in the javelin, which set a new Relays record, the Eagles gave the sun-drenched crowd it's money's worth.

As Bowser had been expected to cop the javelin, so Ronald Linscomb was slated to claim top honors in the broad jump and he did with a leap of 24 feet, 2 ¼ inches. Carl Holloway turned in a 9.9 100-yard dash to win this event, while David Ballauer hurled the discus 147 feet, 2½ inches. A come-from-behind anchor quarter by Fred Pink gave NTSU its other first place as the mile relay, composed of Holloway, Don Fox, Linscomb and Pink, added the climax to the day's events.
