Kappa Mu Epsilon Math Club Initiates Freshman Contest

A freshman mathematics competition night was sponsored in April by Kappa Mu Epsilon, national honor society in mathematics. Math tests were given to freshmen who wished to compete; winners received engraved sets of math tables.

Earlier in the spring, Dr. William D. L. Appling of the math faculty spoke to the society on assorted rocketry.

The formal purpose of Kappa Mu Epsilon is to bind together in a common fellowship those who are serious students of mathematics. On Honors Day the fraternity presents the Freshman Math Award as it special award of the year.

The society was founded in 1931 at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla. The Texas Epsilon Chapter was established at North Texas in 1951, replacing the Mathematics Club.

The 40-member organization is sponsored by Dr. John Ed Allen, Paul Lewis served as president of KME, which initiated 23 new members in the fall.
