Victories Were Scant... during the 1963 - 1964 cage season, but Coach Charles Johnson feels that this year's team was one of the finest to don NTSU uniforms. Paced by All-MVC forward John Savage, the Eagles compiled a 7-17 season record with a 1-11 Missouri Valley Conference mark. Savage, making the All-MVC first team for the third straight year, scored a varsity total of 1,423 points, placing him second in the most points scored in a career by a North Texas player. Midway through the season, a crucial blow was dealt the Eagles when 6-7 forward Carl Miller was sidelined with mononucleosis and 6-6 forward Fred Schulz dropped out of school. In the MVC race, defending champion Cincinnati was replaced by Wichita and Drake, who tied for the crown. Wichita earned the right to advance to the regional NCAA tournament by defeating Drake in a special playoff. Cincy dropped to fifth, NT, to last. The Yucca, 1964 |
