... greeted Coach Winton E. (Pop) Noah when workouts began for the 1964 NTSU track season.

Thirteen members - only one senior - formed the nucleus of an inexperienced team. Appearances at two indoor meets early in the spring brightened prospects as the Eagles fared well in Noah's estimation against some of the top competition in the Southwest.

After the Will ROgers Indoor and Dallas Indoor Meeths, the Eagles lost a dual meet to Kansas State College of Pittsburg, placed sixth in the Southwest Recreation and third in a five-team meet in Denton. Appearances were also made at the Texas, Kansas, Drake, West Texas and San Angelo Relays in preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Meet.
