Eagles Grounded, Then Fly HighWhen the Eagles go they go big. In the sixth game of the season the flock met the number one team in the nation, the Arkansas Razorbacks. But before the Hogs ran away with a 55-20 victory, North Texas gave the Porkers a big scare. Vidal Carlin set three NTSU passing records by trying 54 passes and remarkably completed 32 for 307 yards. Fourteen of Carlin's throws went to John Love. Love's pass-catching performance set a North Texas single-game record. At halftime the Eagles trailed 14-13. In the second half the Razorbacks had a 28-13 lead. Then the Eagles flew to Cincinnati and flew over the Bearcats, 28-24, for their first MVC win. With 1:25 remaining in the game, Carlin passed to Love at the Bearcats' 5-yard line setting up the winning touchdown. The Yucca, 1966 |
