Mitchell Retires As A Winner

After 42 years as a head coach, 21 of those seasons at North Texas, Coach Odus Mitchell retired on the completion of the 1966 schedule. The important thing is, Mitchell went out the way he came in, as a winner.

When Mitchell graduated at West Texas Normal (not State) he immediately took the head coaching job at Post High School and wont the district title. A few years later he then went to Pampa High School for a 13 year stay.

From there he went to Marchall in East Texas where he coached a young kid named Y. A. Tittle, who eventually quarterbacked the New York Giants and set many National Football League passing records.
