Alpha Phi Beta leadership grows in new sorority

Joining the NT Greek system last October as a local sorority, Alpha Phi Beta has already gained a reputation for having outstanding leadership.

Three members were important officers of NAACP: Janice Johnson was president, Cheryl Rush was second vice-president and Gloria Overstreet was assistant secretary.

Nicky Wilson, sponsored by Alpha Phi Beta, was selected as one of the 1969 Yucca Beauties.

The local sorority plans to affiliate with a national sorority during the spring semester.

Fall activities included a car wash in Dallas and door-to-door collection of money for underprivileged children during November.

Planned for spring in addition to initiation were a talent and style show and an Easter party.

Other Alpha Phi Beta members were active in the Young Democrats, Sigma ALpha Eta, Phi Chi Theta and the University Press.

Officers were: Sherra Hicks, pres.; Janice Johnson, 1st v.p.; Jacqueline Hill, 2nd v.p.; Carol Colbert, sec.; Sylvia Jefferson, treas.; Carol Odom, parl.
