Patrick Cobbs joined the Mean Green in 2001. He was recently red shirted due to injuries but will return next year to play for North Texas for a fifth year. Cobbs is challenging nearly every standing offensive record at the university. In his first season as a running back, he set three North Texas single-season rushing records. Patrick broke Abner Haynes' record for the most rushing touchdowns in a single season.

Cobbs was the first African American to be namedthe Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2002. He led the nation in rushing last year and ranked in the top six for rushing touchdowns. He also took the school lead in career touchdowns, overtaking Ron Shanklin's record.

Patrick was the only running back in the nation to have four 200-yard rushing games last season. He holds the Sun Belt Conference records for rushing yards in a game, a season and a career. He also holds conference records for rushing touchdowns in a game and the longest rush from scrimmage.

Equally as important, this outstanding student athlete is on the university and athletic honor rolls. We look forward to his return next season.
