WinSCP Program for File Transfer

WinSCP is a freeware SCP client for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP using SSH (Secure SHell).  Its main function is safe copying of files between a local and a remote computer.

The WinSCP program is free and can be downloaded, here.  Double click on this WinSCP icon on your desktop once it is downloaded and installed.  Alternatively, you can run WinSCP by running "winscp310" from the 'START' --> 'RUN' menu.

On the WinSCP Login screen, type "sol.acs.unt.edu" in the 'Host Name' box.  Then use your Sol username (your EUID) and password to log in.  WinSCP can do all basic operations with files, such as copying and moving (to and from a remote computer).  It also allows you to rename files and folders, create new folders, and change properties of files and folders.

A selectable program interfaces in WinSCP is displayed above. A local folder is displayed in the left panel and a remote folder in the right panel. For the purpose of file transfer on Sol, the left panel is your local hard drive (C:\ or D:\) and the right panel is the Sol file directory. To operate within a panel, highlight the panel.  For example, you are operating within the /home/cl0084/ of the right (remote) panel in the sample window above.  Files are transferred between these two panels (by double-clicking the file), though it is possible to
transfer files into a different folder.  To create a new folder within a panel, press F7 when the specific panel is highlighted.

Example:  Creating a folder called "CRSP" on my local hard drive D:\

First, highlight the left panel, which represents the local hard drive (D:\).  Then, press F7 to open the create new folder box.  Type "CRSP" in the create new folder box and press enter.  Once the "CRSP" folder is created, double-click on the folder.  This allows you to transfer files between your Sol account and the CRSP folder located in your hard drive.
