You can also create braille from virtually any word processor, scan in information, use information from the World Wide Web, or create documents with our built-in word processors. With Duxbury translators, making braille has never been easier.

How to Translate Documents Into Braille

1. Save your MS Word or Kurzweil 1000 documents as text (.txt) files.

2. Open Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) by double-clicking on the shortcut on the adaptive machine desktop.

3. From the File menu, choose Open and find your text document for translation. (alternatively, you can actually create your documents in the DBT text editor) You can always access the File menu in DBT by using Alt-F

4. Complete any changes or edits you wish to make in your text document before performing braille translation.

5. To translate your document into Braille , choose Translate from the File menu.

6. To emboss your braille document on the Index 4x4 Braille Embosser, make sure that the embosser is turned on (the button is on the top lefthand corner of the embosser cabinet; the embosser will tell you that it is now turned on) and that there is paper in the paper feeder. Get a consultant to help you if you are unsure of how to do this or if the embosser is out of paper.

Next choose Emboss from the File menu. Your document will be embossed on the Index 4x4.
