Academic Computing Services General Access Lab (ISB 110) Hourly Position Descriptions and Rates.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Invitations for applications to any and all of these jobs will be posted in the ISB 110 lab and on the lab website (http://www.unt.edu/ACSGAL) when opportunities are available.

Interested parties may also leave resumes for the lab manager at any time during the school year and will be contacted with an invitation to apply when opportunities are available.

All applicants will need to have an interview with the lab manager and also complete the ACS/Adaptive Lab Consultant Exam for consideration for employment. The interviews and consultant exam will be administered when employment opportunities are available.

First consideration is given to applicants with experience working with persons with disabilities.

Position: CHECKIN DEVELOPER

General Duties

General duties for this position include the following:

A. Assist the student computing services manager in the maintenance of the General Access Lab Checkin system and its general access lab website components.

B. Assist the student computing services manager in the maintenance of the General Access Lab Checkin servers.

C. Attend meetings as called upon by the Checkin development team.

D. Attend a job review and assessment interview with the lab manager each semester.

General Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have the following general qualifications:

A. Good oral and written English language skills.

B. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and university holidays.

C. Ability to work on team computing projects with a variety of university-wide computing staff at various skill levels.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with persons with disabilities.

Specific Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have demonstrated qualifications in the following technical areas:

A. Installation and use of the Linux operating system.

B. Linux server security and maintenance

C. Batch file programming and basic DOS functions

D. Application programming languages Perl, C, C++, Java, Javascript

E. Web development tools: HTML, Dreamweaver, Frontpage

F. Adaptive technologies

G. Knowledge of student computing services and their use in the General Access Labs including UNT Student Storage and WebCT

Wage: $9.00 - $16.00/hr – initial rate and raises depending on depth and breadth of job duties and experience. Other: 1 position; hours negotiable; not eligible for out-of-state tuition waiver

Position: LEAD CONSULTANT/LAB TECHNICAL ASSISTANT

General Duties

General duties for this position include the following:

A. Assist the lab manager in the setup and maintenance of all lab workstations, printers, and other lab hardware.

B. Assist the lab manager in the setup, maintenance, and metering (as applicable) of all lab software applications.

C. Assist the lab manager in the setup, maintenance, and metering of statistics software applications.

D. Assist the lab manager, lab monitors, and lab consultants in the day-to-day operations of the lab.

E. Assist the lab manager in the design and maintenance of the ACS general access lab website.

F. Attend lab staff meetings as called by the lab manager.

G. Attend a job review and assessment interview with the lab manager each semester.

H. Assist with the checking in and out of patrons when needed.

General Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have the following general qualifications:

A. Good oral and written English language skills.

B. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and university holidays.

C. Ability to interact in a pleasant and effective manner with computer users of various skill levels.

Candidates for this position must have demonstrated qualifications in the following technical areas:

A. Installation of current Windows and Macintosh operating systems

B. Netware server maintenance including account management, printer management, security, and Novell Zenworks for Desktops

C. Specialized hardware and software applications including scanning, cd-rom burning and adaptive technologies.

D. Batch file programming and basic DOS functions

E. Application programming languages Perl, C, C++, Java, Javascript

F. Web development tools: HTML, Dreamweaver, Frontpage

G. Workstation maintenance tools such as virus protection software and imaging software.

H. Adaptive technologies

I. Knowledge of student computing services and their use in the General Access Labs including UNT Student Storage and WebCT

Wage: $8.50 - $11.00/hr – initial rate and raises depending on depth and breadth of job duties and experience.

Other: 1 position; 20 hours per week; not eligible for out-of-state tuition waiver

Position: LAB CONSULTANT

General Duties

General Duties for this position include:

A. Direct students, faculty, and staff to appropriate PC and Macintosh hardware and software and adaptive technologies as needed. Check lab patrons in and out of the appropriate workstations. Keep careful track of patron ID cards.

B. Answer phone, run errands, and maintain the appearance of the lab.

C. Maintain lab monitor workstation (Checkin application) and lab printers (paper and toner refills) without supervision.

D. Enforce UNT general access lab codes and rules.

E. Consulting with students, faculty, and staff on operations of ACS General Access Lab hardware and software as it relates to their academic work.

F. Assisting faculty and staff in the use of ACS General Access Lab facilities as it relates to the support of classroom instruction.

G. Assisting students, faculty, and staff with disabilities on operations of ACS General Access Lab adaptive hardware and software.

H. Assisting the lab manager and lab tech support in the maintenance of ACS General Access Lab hardware and software.

I. Screening and referring problems requiring specialized expertise to appropriate Computing and Information Technology Center professional staff.

J. Attend lab staff meetings as called by the lab manager.

K. Attend a job review and assessment interview with the lab manager each semester.

A. Thorough knowledge of current Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

B. Thorough knowledge of general lab software including the Office Suite, the Netscape and Internet Explorer web browsers, and the UNT Library System catalogs and search engines.

C. Thorough knowledge of the use of general lab hardware including laser printers, scanners, and cd-rom burners.

D. Familiarity with adaptive technologies and issues

E. Knowledge of student computing services and their use in the General Access Labs including UNT Student Storage and WebCT

Wage: $7.00/hr

Other: 10 positions; 20 hours per week; eligible for out-of-state tuition upon approval by department head (CITC) and the university bursar's office. (see specific waiver guidelines below)

Excerpts from Guidelines for Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
(from Policy 2.2.16.1 and the Bursar's Office Employment Requirements)

1. Individual must be employed as of the 12th class day in a long semester, as of the 4th class day in a summer semester and as of the 2nd class day in a May Minimester (unless payroll dates need to be considered). Hourly employees must work an average of 20 hours per week through each semester. The individuals must work each semester a waiver is awarded (including a May Minimester).

2. The student's job must be at least 51 percent interacting with other students helping them academically.

3. The student's position must directly relate to his/her degree program. If the student is employed in a department outside of their degree major, an academic authority in their major department must certify there is a direct relationship between the employee’s position and their degree program. An explanation should be included on the waiver form.

4. When a department becomes aware that an employee no longer qualifies for an employment waiver (employment is terminated before the 12th class day in a long semester, the 4th class day in a summer semester or the 2nd class day in a May Minimester), a representative should notify Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services immediately.

5. Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services(the Bursar's Office) does not hand out forms to students or faculty. The forms are distributed to the departments.

Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the departments to understand the State statute governing this waiver and to ensure its proper use. By signing the Employment Waiver the departments are attesting that the information provided is true and correct and that all conditions of the statute have been met. The department head/account holder (and academic authority, when necessary) needs to be aware of the possibility that the waivers will be audited and that the responsibility for certifying the eligibility lies with the department head/account holder and/or the academic authority who signs the waiver.
