Student Trips and Activities
Not everything at IELI happens in the classroom
or in the language lab. There are other
activities. For example:
-
Welcome parties are held at the beginning of the Fall I, Spring I, and Summer terms to
give students a chance to get to know each other, to play games and to win prizes.
Each term IELI students go on field trips around the Dallas-Denton area. Some of the
places they go are:
-
Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park,
-
Grapevine Mills, the largest shopping mall in Texas,
-
Dallas Mavericks basketball game or Dallas Stars ice hockey game,
-
Texas Rodeo, and, in the Summer,
-
Cowboy Dude ranch, where the students and teachers swim, learn Texas style dances, ride
horses, and eat a barbecued beef lunch.

Other special events and activities are:
During the term, lower level students take several field trips around the
University of North Texas campus, the city of Denton, and to Dallas as part of their
classwork and acculturation. Other places of interest that IELI students may visit are the
IMAX theaters in Dallas and Ft. Worth, the Galleria Mall in Dallas with its ice skating
rink, the J.F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza, and the zoos in Dallas and Ft. Worth, or the Ft.
Worth Botanical Gardens.
