Government Documents on Campus
By Bobby Griffith, UNT Government Documents Department, Willis
Library (griffith@library.unt.edu)
The Government Documents Department at the UNT Libraries provides
free access to thousands of government publications on a wide variety of
topics. We have a Web page that describes the Department and provides
links to many electronic sources of government information on every
level from local to international. The Documents Department Web page
is accessible on the Internet at http://www.library.unt.edu/info/willis/govdocs/deposit3.html. You
can also get to the Documents page from the UNT Libraries homepage at
http://www.library.unt.edu.
Select "Library and Departmental Information," then select "Government
Documents Department" (under "Willis Library").
The Documents Department has two links on its web page that are of
special interest in this election year:
- "A Guide to the 1996 U.S. Election Campaigns" is an annotated list
of selected internet sites of interest to voters. The guide includes
sites related specifically to the 1996 elections as well as sites that
provide political analyses and profiles of elected officials, sites
related to various aspects of political activism, and sites that assist
with voter registration.
The guide is accessible at http://www.library.unt.edu/info/willis/govdocs/elect96.html. You
can also get to it from the Documents Department web page (see URL
above) by selecting "Hot Topics" (under "Ready Reference"), then "1996
Elections."
- "Finding Information About Elected Officials" explains how to
research your elected officials using both internet sources and other
sources available in the UNT Libraries. It also includes instructions
for writing a letter to your legislator and a directory of legislators
for citizens of Denton County, which gives names, phone numbers, mailing
addresses (including E-mail addresses when available), and proper
salutations.
"Finding Information About Elected Officials" is accessible at
http://www.library.unt.edu/info/willis/govdocs/elecfile.html.
You can also get to it from the Documents Department web page (see URL
above) by selecting "Politics/Elected Officials" (under "Finding
Government Information at UNT.")
