Alumnus Edwin C. Thomas, III is President and Chief Executive Officer of Asbury Services, Inc. (AServ). Asbury Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization with headquarters in the Washington D.C. Metro area, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Asbury Services, Inc. supports organizations which provide services to the aging through continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), housing, assisted living, health care and other services to the aging.

Asbury has provided geriatric care and services to the aging since 1926 at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Asbury Methodist Village has been recognized for quality geriatric care through varied certifications and awards, including Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, CCAC, Joint Commission Accreditation Healthcare Organization, JCAHO, and United Methodist Ministries' EAGLE award. Other retirement community locations include Asbury-Solomons Island, a waterfront CCRC in Southern Maryland.

Today Asbury provides services to over 1,600 residents and employs approximately 800 employees. Financial stability is demonstrated by a rating for Asbury Methodist Village & Asbury-Solomons Island by S&P of A-. In December, 1997 Asbury Obligated Group bonds were the first tax exempt bonds of a CCRC in the nation to be insured by Municipal Bond Insurance Agency, (MBIA) rated AAA.

Thomas' career includes management on the East Coast and in the Mid-West. Prior to joining AServ as President and CEO in 1987, he was named the Executive Director of Wesley Retirement Services, formerly South Iowa Methodist Homes, Inc. at the age of 31, and served from 1980 to 1987 having joined the organization as an Administrative Intern in 1978. Thomas' leadership includes professional representation at state and national associations and various accomplishments.
