* What GPA is
required?

* My undergraduate
GPA is too low for admission to the Graduate School. Is there anything I can do to become
eligible for admission?
Applicants with a GPA between
2.6 and 3.0 on their last 60 undergraduate hours or an overall
undergraduate GPA between 2.4 and 2.8 may be considered for adminssion on
an individual review basis by the graduate dean.
Applicants whose GPA is below 2.4 may become eligible for
admission to the Graduate School by completing a 15-hour program of upper-division (3000-
and 4000-level) undergraduate courses at UNT (those courses to be selected in consultation
with a DAG advisor) with no grade lower than B.
* When do I have
to take the GRE?
Preferably, GRE scores should
be supplied at the time application is made to the Graduate School. At the latest,
students whose admission does not require individual approval must have official scores
submitted before the end of their first semester of enrollment at UNT.
* What GRE score
is required?
For master's degree students,
the minimum required score is 350 on the verbal section and 350 on the quantitative
section (there is no score requirement for the analytical section).
* My GRE score is
below the minimum. Can I still be admitted to your program?
Scores below
the minimum cannot be
accepted. Potential applicants whose GRE scores do not meet the
minimum are often able to improve their scores by enrolling in a brief
review course designed to prepare them for the exam. Such courses
are available at many universities as well as commercially.
* For international students,

* Do you also have
a departmental application?
Yes. In addition to general
information, we ask for an autobiographical statement concerning the applicant's interest,
experience, and future career plans in aging. We also require three letters of
reference for admission to our graduate programs.
Most applicants have these letters sent from present/past professors and/or employers.
* What transcripts
do I have to provide?
Official transcripts from all
colleges and universities attended must be sent to the appropriate office at UNT
(Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, or International Admissions). Any
transcript in a foreign language must be accompanied by an official English translation.
* Is there an
application fee?
The non-refundable fee
required by the university is $25.00 for applicants (either graduate or undergraduate) who
are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and $50.00 for international students. The fee
may be paid by check, money order, or credit card, and must accompany the application
form. The Department of Applied Gerontology does not charge an additional application fee at the
departmental level.
