Library Resources
in Gerontology

Overview

For more than three decades, gerontology faculty and university library staff have worked together to build an extensive collection of materials suitable for instruction, training, and research in the field of aging.

The current collection includes more than 3700 volumes dealing with the social, psychological, physical and health aspects of aging. The presence of classic works in the field reflect the university's long-standing interest in, and commitment to, the field of aging. These classic works are regularly joined by contemporary and emerging classics in the field through a process of continuous acquisition.

The library currently subscribes to more than 40 journals dealing with gerontological issues, including international as well as domestic publications.

Faculty and students in gerontology also draw on the university library's extensive and well-catalogued collection of government documents. This special resource provides access to the latest federal and state information on such topics as population aging, the health and well-being of older Americans, the delivery of services to the elderly, and evolving public policies in the field of aging.

Two nationally recognized special collections, the National Media Owl Award Video Collection and the Gerontological Film and Video Collection, containing more than 600 films, videos, and related audiovisual materials, are housed in the University's Media Library. which is located in Chilton Hall.
