Recertification Policy and Fees
CASP and CASP
Fellow Graduates are required to renew their certification every two years. The
purpose of recertification is to ensure that all graduates remain current with
the latest educational developments and practices in the field. Graduates must
complete a "Renewal Application" and submit a record of 22 hours of continuing
education units (CEUs) along with the corresponding renewal fee on alternating
even/odd-year cycles (ex: a 2004 graduate would recertify on even year cycles
i.e. 2006, 2008, etc.).
Graduates may earn
CEUs through the following methods:
-
Attendance at seminars/conferences*--every 1 hour attended = 1 CEU
(no max.)
-
Paid professional consulting--4 hours = 1 CEU (max. of 4)
-
Attending university courses--1 semester (3 credit hour course) = 6
CEUs (no max.)
-
Teaching (non-credit)
university courses--every 2 hours teaching = 1 CEU (max. of 11)

*These training sessions may include
AAHSA's Annual Meeting and Spring Conference, any educational offerings through
AAHSA's state associations, and training offered through local colleges,
universities, and professional organizations.
Continuing Education Unit Tracking
CASP and CASP
Fellow Graduates receive a
CEU Tracking Form after graduation. During the
two-year recertification period, graduates are responsible for listing any
activity that is to be applied towards their biennial renewal, and maintaining
all supporting documentation with their records. At the end of two years,
graduates receive an invitation to become recertified and a Renewal Application
from the CLAS office. The CEU Tracking Form is then submitted with the Renewal
Application and the corresponding recertification fee.
Documentation
Because graduates eligible for renewal are randomly audited,
supporting documentation and copies of the forms should be maintained by the
graduate. If selected for an audit, the graduate is required to submit all
supporting documentation verifying participation in the programs listed on the
CEU Tracking Form. Recertification may be denied if verification cannot be
provided.
Timeline for Recertification
-
Renewal applications and fees must be submitted to the
CLAS Office no later than December 31st of the year in which they are
due.
-
Late renewals are subject to a late renewal-processing fee.
-
Graduates who successfully fulfill the renewal requirements
receive a letter of approval within six to eight weeks. They also receive a new
CASP/CASP Fellow Diploma with new certification validity dates.
If a graduate
does not renew certification by the expiration date, he/she is classified as a
suspended graduate. Missed cycles must be made up by submitting 22 CEU’s and
the corresponding application fees for each cycle missed (subject to price
increases). If more than 3 consecutive renewal cycles are missed, the graduate
will forfeit his/her credential and be classified as inactive. Any inactive
graduate who wishes to regain certification after being decertified must
complete the Program again.
