Vision

Education opens doors, changes lives and improves society. At the University of North Texas — a vibrant, student-centered public research university — we are committed to helping our more than 34,000 students succeed at whatever endeavor they seek to pursue. And we celebrate our more than 170,000 active alumni who use their UNT education to make a difference every day.

Recognized far beyond Texas for important contributions and impact, UNT has always set and met ambitious goals. We seek to understand, to advance human knowledge and to tackle society’s challenges by exploring and nurturing ideas.

Expanding strengths in science and technology complement our nationally recognized foundation of excellence in music, art and the humanities, as well as our tradition of developing teachers and reaching out to our communities through applied research.

Our independent, entrepreneurial spirit led us to develop many of the nation’s first programs in cutting-edge disciplines. Last year, my first at this outstanding university, we launched our Emerald Eagle Scholars program to guarantee cost will not prohibit Texas’ talented students from earning a high-quality education.

By providing access, welcoming diversity and strengthening our collaborations with our many educational, business and community partners, as well as building new partnerships across the globe, UNT’s faculty and staff work each day to prepare students for the challenges they will meet in our changing world.

I invite you to learn more about the exciting educational opportunities and advances at UNT by reading this report.

With green pride,

UNT executive leadership team

Bataille, and from left, Deborah Leliaert, vice president for university relations, communications and marketing; Gilda Garcia, vice president for institutional equity and diversity; Wendy Wilkins, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Greg McQueen, senior vice president for advancement; Renaldo Stowers, senior associate general counsel; Bonita Hairston, chief of staff; Andrew Harris, vice president for finance and administration; Bonita Jacobs, vice president for student development; and Vishwanath “Vish” Prasad, vice president for research and economic development. Rick Villarreal, athletic director, also is on the leadership team.

During her first year at the University of North Texas, President Gretchen M. Bataille restructured the University’s leadership to focus clearly on achievement of UNT’s mission and strategic goals as a student-centered public research university.

The first-class executive leadership team the president assembled is charged with guiding the University in its mission to harness the power of ideas through a culture of learning based on diverse viewpoints, interdisciplinary endeavors, creativity and disciplined excellence, and through programs in which well-prepared students and dedicated scholars and artists collaborate with local and global communities in creating and sharing knowledge.

Guiding the team’s choices and grounding its work are the core values of the University: students and learning, opportunity and diversity, scholarship and research, community and connectivity, partnership and outreach, and integrity and stewardship. These values provide a foundation for both stability and change.

As UNT’s leaders meet the changing demands of a global world on higher education, they work toward the University’s vision to be a diverse and inclusive institution creating knowledge and innovations to shape the future while cultivating excellence in the world’s next generation of scholars and leaders.
