Teaching Assistant/Grader Positions:

Each semester the department is able to provide a limited number of teaching assistant/grader positions for graduate students. If interested, the student should fill out an application and turn it in to Melissa (940-565-4985) before the beginning of the new semester.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Loans and Grants:
Be sure to check with both the UNT Financial Aid Office and the Student Accounting Office when applying for financial assistance. The Financial Aid Office recommends that students fill out their FAFSA early and apply for loans or grants by April 15 for the following fall semester. Please notice that if you are applying for the late department admission deadline (May 1) you run the risk of missing the deadline for fall financial aid. Financial aid counselors are available to answer your questions by e-mail or phone, see the financial aid website for more details.

Department Scholarships:
The Anthropology Department has a limited number of scholarships of $1,000 each. The Graduate Committee will decide on scholarship nominees based on first year status and academic achievement; the faculty will then vote. This scholarship will qualify the student for in-state tuition. Student must take a minimum of 9 hours.

Graduate School Scholarships:
The following is a list of scholarships through the Graduate School:

Tuition Scholarships - must be first-year student and nominated by the department.
Multiple $1,000 scholarships awarded by the Graduate Student Council.
Ten Graduate Fellowships for McNair Scholars. (McNair Scholarships are awarded to first generation/low income undergraduate students who have participated in a McNair Scholars program at their undergraduate institution.)

College of Public Affairs and Community Service Scholarships:
The College of Public Affairs and Community Service has a limited number of scholarships of $500 each. The announcement and application for these scholarships is distributed early in the Fall semester by PACS.

Online Scholarship Application:
This application is for Anthropology Department Scholarships and Toulouse School of Graduate Studies Tuition Scholarships. All other scholarship inquiries must be directed to the sponsoring program.

Print this form, fill it out, and submit it to the Anthropology Department with your application for admission to the masters program.

Academic Common Market

Students wishing to pursue study in uncommon programs not available within their home state may be able to take advantage of the Academic Common Market. This is a program whereby legal residents of 16 southern states can attend specified out-of-state graduate programs without paying out-of-state tuition. Please feel free to contact Lisa Henry to discuss this program.


The Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships

The UNT Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarship (formerly the Office of Postgraduate Fellowships) assists undergraduate and graduate students in identifying and pursuing externally funded research and study opportunities. Dr. James Duban, director of the office, invites students to inquire about the preparation and credentials necessary to compete successfully for such postgraduate awards.
