Gazi AyyadGAZI AYYAD

Senior, Anthropology/History

University of North Texas

Mentor: Dr. Christina Wasson

Research: Biological and Philosophical Aspects of Language Among Humans and Animals

 


Gazi was drawn to anthropology because he could study a variety of topics. He is interested in language and feels that learning new languages helps people understand the world. After graduation, Gazi plans to attend the American University in Cairo and study Modern Classical Arabic. Gazi will then pursue graduate school to study the neurological aspects of language and communication.

Christopher KellyCHRISTOPHER KELLY

Senior, Sociology/Psychology/Gender Studies

Chris is a committed activist for peace, feminism, anti-racism, gay empowerment, and free speech. He is very controversial among a largely conservative student body. His experiences in a conservative culture has left him devoted to understanding issues of knowledge, representation and oppression, especially as they affect gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered populations. Chris plans to pursue an interdisciplinary doctorate exploring the intricacies of knowledge and power in and their effects on human lives.

 

DAVID McCORQUADALE

Sophomore, Psychology/Visual Arts

University of North Texas

Research: Hunger in Denton - Our Daily Bread


David is a resident of La Porte, Texas which is located outside of Houston. He is currently studying psychology, anthropology, and the visual arts. David plans to study abroad as an undergraduate in Japan and join the Peace Corp in 2006. He aspires to pursue his doctorate in Applied Psychology and incorporate his enjoyment of culture and art into his research.

 

Ricardo OcampoRICARDO OCAMPO

Senior, Anthropology/Political Science

Swarthmore College

Research: Popular Mobilization as a Vehicle for Change in Bolivia



Ricardo was born in Medellin, Colombia and moved to the United States with his family at the age of three. He is passionate about studying the struggles of working class, indigenous, and all other oppressed groups, particularly in Latin America. Ricardo plans to attend graduate school and pursue a degree in political economy. Ricardo wants to work as a government official in Latin American and work on issues of development and empowerment.

April OzunaAPRIL OZUNA

Senior, Psychology/Counselor Education

University of North Texas

Mentor: Dr. Patricia Kaminski & Kristen Anton

Research: Examining Parenting Outcomes of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors

 


April is from Fort Worth, Texas and is a proud mother of her 8 year-old son, Jordan. Her interests include bipolar disorder and suicide, play therapy, and issues regarding single parents in academia. She studied abroad in Greece in 2003 and her academic credits include the Dean’s List and the President’s List. After graduation, April will pursue her PhD in clinical psychology.
