BILLY JOEL AGUILAR de QUIROGA-RAMOS

Research: A Look at Queer Representation in Cinema in Three Spanish
Speaking Countries
Billy was born in La Lima, Honduras and raised in Jacinto City,
Texas. He graduated in the top 4% of his high school class with
honors and is responsible for paying 100% of his college tuition.
After graduation, Billy wants to pursue a doctorate in Sociology,
with a focus on gender, sexuality, Queer studies. His goal is to
teach in a small, private university.

LESSIE SMITH
Junior, Anthropology/Sociology
University of North Florida

Research: African-American Dialogue in American Mass Media
Lessie, of Jacksonville, Florida, wants to give back to the inner
city where she grew up. She wants to pursue a PhD in cultural
anthropology and dedicate her research to the African Diaspora. She
also plans to teach at the university level and mentor young adults.

SUSANA SOLANO
Senior, Psychology

Mentor: Dr. Tyson Gibbs
Research: The Utilization of Mental Health Services Among
Mexican-Americans
Susie was born in Mexico and raised in California. She is interested
in issues of culture, family, and mental health. She plans to pursue
a doctorate degree in clinical psychology and study family and
cultural factors that influence diagnosis, clinical course, and
treatment outcome of various forms of psychopathology, particularly
among Latino families. Susie’s long-term goals are to pursue a
career as a researcher and professor in clinical psychology.

BRYAN WINKLER
Senior, Psychology
Trinity University
Mentor: Dr. Eugenia Bodenhamer-Davis
Research: The Neurophysiological Correlates and Characteristics of
the Transendental Meditation Technique.
Bryan is a native Texan and graduated from Bishop Lynch High School.
He is interested in the neurosciences, specifically with
consciousness, memory, and alternative treatment methods for
addictive behaviors. After graduation, Bryan wants to pursue a
doctorate in neuroscience. |
