JESSICA BRADFORD
Junior, Radio, Television & Film/Applied Arts & Science

Mentor: Dr. Tyson Gibbs
Research: Alternative Methods of Treating Mental Illness in African
American Communities
Jessica continually strives to create narratives that raise cultural
consciousness. She has worked at KNTU 88.1 as a disk jockey and NTTV
News Station as a camera operator, and is a member of UNT G-Force which
promotes college awareness among high school students. Jessica plans to
pursue an interdisciplinary master's degree after graduation.

Mentor: Dr. George Yancey
Research: Race Relations: Black-White Interracial Couples & Their
Christian Churches
Intrigued by relationships within Christian churches, Tenesha aspires
to develop contemporary support ministries in churches for teenagers and
married couples. After working for a year assisting persons with
mental retardation and other disabilities, she will begin a graduate program
in Marriage & Family Therapy in the fall of 2006.

Research: Why People Stay in Small Towns
Amber is from Lone Star, a small town in northeast Texas, on which she
based her research. She will study abroad in the United Kingdom and
plans to move to Canada after graduation. She will pursue her Masters in
Social Work that will enable her to work around the world helping
others. Her interests include family, mental health, gender, and sexuality.

AMANDA BABETTE PADRON
Senior, Philosophy/General Studies
University of North Texas
Mentor: Dr. Tyson Gibbs
Research: A Chinese Folktale: An exploration of the Xi You Ji (journey
to the west)
and its influence on Contemporary Chinese Identity.
Babette spent her junior year abroad in Japan studying Japanese
philosophy, religion, and culture. After graduating in 2006, she will return
to East Asia to teach English as a Second Language. Babette’s future
plans include pursuing a graduate degree that will allow her to combine
her interests in anthropology, philosophy, religion, and art.
