PEDRO “PETER” PALACIOS

Senior, General Studies

Research: Exploring Public Disposition on Environmentalism and the Compatibility with the Discourse on Sustainability


With interests in economics, philosophy and political science, Peter intends on expanding his interdisciplinary background in graduate school by studying environmental ethics and environmental science. After graduating with his BA, Peter intends to travel extensively and work for an international NGO to cultivate his interests before returning to academe.

RUMANA RAHMAN

Junior, Economics

Research: Understanding the health care needs of the medically indigent residents of Grayson County


Rumana is from Bangladesh. Her traveling experiences along with her stay in Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia sparked the desire to study Anthropology. Her research interests include medical anthropology, women issues, culture of poverty and visual anthropology. She wishes to pursue her graduate studies in applied anthropology and media studies and make documentaries based on her research so that she can promote social awareness in Bangladesh.
 

CANDACE SIBLEY

Senior, Anthropology/Biology/African American Studies

Research: Spirituality and Relationships: An exploratory study of female African American exotic dancers


Candace desires to help with AIDS research and more equitable health resources for people of lower socioeconomic status, specifically African Americans. As a career goal, she plans to pursue her doctor of osteopathy and doctorate in health, behavior and society. She plans to practice medicine, teach ethnic studies on the college level, and promote culturally sound medicine.
 

YEKATERINA SULIMA

Junior, Anthropology/Archaeology

Binghampton University

Mentor: Dr. Doug Henry

Research: Understanding Why American Indian Suicide Rates are Extremely Elevated?


Yekaterina is originally from the Ukraine and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. She will pursue a doctorate in anthropology focusing on either contemporary American Indian issues or the archaeology of Asia or South America. Yekaterina would like to spend her life teaching and promoting respect for nonwestern ways of life while also preserving such ways through archaeology.
