Degree Plan
Information
The program includes five required
core courses, five electives, and a two-semester practicum. All courses are fully online.
The core courses include training in theory,
method, and application. Students must take all of these five courses:
 |
ANTH 5010 Anthropological Thought and Praxis I |
 |
ANTH 5021 Anthropological Thought and Praxis II |
 |
ANTH 5031 Ethnographic and Qualitative Methods |
 |
ANTH 5041 Quantitative Methods in Anthropology |
 |
ANTH 5050 Pre-Practicum: Problems and Cases in Applied
Anthropology |
In addition, entering students who
do not have at least 12 hours of anthropology must take the online leveling
course (ANTH 5000 Seminar in Sociocultural Anthropology) the summer
before their first year of study.
Electives help students develop expertise in
their area of interest. We encourage students to take two electives
outside of anthropology. We accept electives from other universities.
In addition, students may arrange independent study courses with their
adviser. The following electives are offered as online courses:
 |
5100 Organizational Anthropology |
 |
5201 Medical Anthropology |
 |
5300 Migrants and Refugees |
 |
5400 Environmental Anthropology |
 |
5620 Anthropology of Education |
The practicum is a project for a client. It
allows students to integrate what they have learned, and helps position
them for their career. It is formalized as a series of two courses:
 |
ANTH 5800 Applying Anthropology: Practicum I |
 |
ANTH 5810 Applying Anthropology: Practicum II |
|
