    About US

Special Projects in Special Education at the University of North Texas offers graduate degrees related to meeting the unique needs of students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders. The Master's programs and the Doctoral Leadership Program have been designed for specific purposes.

Masters Degree

At the Master's level, emphasis is placed on preparing school-based personnel with specialization in designing effective and collaborative programs for students with challenging behaviors. These school-based personnel may work as teachers, behavioral interventionists, transition specialists, and/or serve in related roles that require personnel with expertise in working with students with behavioral problems.

Doctoral Degree

The Doctoral Leadership Program in Behavioral Disorders utilizes a "mentorship model" with an emphasis on increasing knowledge and understanding of academic areas related to the terminal goals of the student. The program emphasizes (a) understanding the practical applications of research and technology, (b) developing collaborative skills with general educators and community-based agency personnel, (c) enhancing cultural competencies, (d) developing teaching and supervisory skills, (e) developing networks that will enhance the effectiveness of students when they leave the program and sustain them in the profession, and (f) increasing personal and professional skills by becoming immersed in the field through involvement with professional associations, governmental agencies, community agencies, parent groups, and others. Emphasis is on the preparation of personnel to work in institutions of higher education.
