Keeping Up With Campus Computing NewsBy Claudia Lynch, Benchmarks EditorThe best way to stay abreast of things on campus is to consult multiple sources. If you can do that online, that's even better. Certainly Dr. Leatherbury's column in Benchmarks Online is an important source of information, but it is also wise to check other sources on a regular basis. The North Texas Daily has articles on campus computing issues from time to time, as does the Human Resources Newsletter and the UNT News Service. You can keep up with UNIX System News by reading it from the Account Management Web page. You can also subscribe to some Usenet Newsgroups that are specific to UNT. It is not uncommon for there to be Newsgroups created for specific classes. There are also groups like unt.forsale, unt.job.offered, unt.job.wanted, unt.general, unt.networking, etc. Many departments also post important news online. For example, the Arts and Sciences Computing Support Service now has a news page to keep people better informed of events in that area. There could be a similar page for your college or department. Your Network Manager should be able to tell you if such a facility exists. n |
