Academic Mainframe MVS Batch System Upgrade ScheduledBy Dr. Philip Baczewski, Associate Director of Academic Computing On June 1-2 MVS batch processing will be unavailable on the Academic Mainframe system so that an operating system upgrade can be performed. The MVS/ESA system will be upgraded to OS/390, the latest version of MVS. We anticipate that the upgrade process will take two days, starting at 8:00 a.m. on June 1, 1998. The MVS batch system should be again available by 5:00 p.m. on June 2, 1998, however, if we encounter unexpected technical problems, the upgrade may extend into June 3. Because of the upgrade process, we will be unable to preserve any jobs left on the MVS SPOOL (jobs visible in J2). We ask that you print or purge any jobs you may have on MVS before June 1. During the MVS upgrade, CMS will be unaffected except for the fact that printing services will be unavailable. However, programs can still be run on CMS and files can be uploaded and downloaded while the MVS upgrade is in progress. This upgrade is necessary to ensure that the Academic MVS system will be Year 2000 compliant. While the upgrade provides additional features, we anticipate that existing jobs will run without any changes. If you have any questions or comments in regard to the scheduled upgrade, address them to Dr. Philip Baczewski, Associate Director of Academic Computing.n |
