Statistical Workshop Slated

Academic Computing Services' Research and Statistical Support office will deliver a special workshop early next month introducing an advanced statistical package, S-Plus. The package is a recent addition to the office's software support coverage. *

The workshop is titled "Exploring the Power of S-Plus: A Presentation on Using S-Plus for Scientific Research" and will feature two presentations by Karl Ho and Rich Herrington and hands-on training for interested faculty and researchers. Topics include:

  • Using S-Plus in teaching elementary statistics
  • The S-Plus programming environment
  • S-Plus Graphical Methods
  • Using S-Plus for modern statistical methods (Trellis, GAM, ACE)
  • Survey of resources available to S-Plus users (statlib, user contributed software, downloadable libraries, etc.)

The workshop will have two sessions to accommodate different schedules. Refreshments will be served between sessions in ISB 202. More details of the event are as follows:

Date: December 1, 1998

Place: ISB 203

Time: Session I -- 2 p.m.; Session II -- 3:30 p.m.
