Brown Bag Series for Distributed Learning

By Jenny Jopling, Center for Distributed Learning Associate Director

The Center for Distributed Learning has organized a special interest group for faculty which meets the first Thursday of each month. It is being held in ISB 204 at noon. Guest presenters will be there each meeting to share and demonstrate their experiences with distributed learning. Please plan to join if you are using distributed learning for instructional delivery or are interested in finding out more about it.

The Center will also be offering a 3 hour crash course in WebCT immediately following the brown bags in ISB 203. WebCT is the Web course management software supported on campus by the Center. Please E-mail kimc@unt.edu to register in advance, or sign up at the brown bag for the following month.

The first brown bag was held October 1st with a demonstration by Dr's. Bill Moen and Linda Schamber from the School of Library and Information Sciences. The two professors are team teaching a course over two way video to four locations in Texas and supplementing the course with content and class communications via the web with WebCT.

Please mark your calendar to join the group and keep in touch with what is happening around campus.n

Satellite Conference Slated: Creating Tomorrow's Learner-Centered Environments -- Today!

Housing and Residence Life is hosting a satellite-linked conference entitled "Creating Tomorrow's Learner-Centered Environments-- Today!" sponsored by the Society for College and University Planning and PBS. We will be one of several hundred sites across the nation participating in this 2 hour presentation. It will be held in the Crumley Conference Room from 11:30-1:30 Thursday October 22. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Tiffany Fears @ x2892. If you cannot make this and still would like the information, we are allowed to make one video which can be shared with the institution.

We will be hearing from a panel of experts who are pioneering 21st century learning, and you will see videotaped segments of other institutions and organizations that are already creating learner-centered environments. This program will provide a framework for thinking about ways to enable your institution to be agile and creative in addressing change, to provide the infrastructure that supports a diversity of learning opportunities, and to encourage the development of strategic alliances. n
