SAS Software Available at UNT Bookstore

The Research and Statistical Support office provides access to a host of centrally-supported statistical software including SAS, SPSS and S-Plus for faculty, staff members and students. Most of the statistical software are either available at the central host systems including the academic mainframe and the UNIX research server or in the General Access Labs. A list of available software is provided in Appendix A.

Starting this semester, we began distributing SAS software to registered students for home use at a special rate, thanks to a special agreement between SAS Institute, Inc. and the University of North Texas. The fully functional student version of SAS is available at the UNT Bookstore at $40. The CD includes the latest version of the software (v.6.12) and an add-on module, Analyst, that performs statistical analysis via a point-and-click approach. Appendix B gives a list of available modules in the student version of the software.

According to the agreement between SAS Institute, Inc. and UNT, registered students at UNT can purchase the CD and install the software at their home machines. The software, however, remains the property of the company. The University pays an annual leasing fee to enable its faculty, staff and students to use the software. Those who purchase the CD are required to produce valid student ID and fill out an agreement form at the UNT Bookstore. Since the software is licensed every year, the installation CD is effective until the license expires on August 31 of the next year, namely 1999. 

Faculty and staff members are not eligible to purchase the CD but they can contact the Research and Statistical Support for accessing the software.
