New Center for Distributed LearningBy Jenny Jopling, Center for Distributed Learning Associate DirectorThis fall UNT presents the new Center for Distributed Learning. What is it?To sum it up, the Center supports faculty in the implementation of distributed learning by serving as a liaison for various administrative and technical support functions for successful course delivery. It also serves as an origination point for policy suggestions related to distributed learning. A Steering Committee made up of representatives from the various UNT constituencies provides ongoing direction for the Center. The Center assists faculty with distributed learning by consulting, designing, producing, training, and as a liaison with administrative areas. This might range anywhere from learning to use a videoconferencing system to converting a course to the World Wide Web. Center StaffDr. Philip Turner, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Distance Learning (also Dean of the School of Library and Information Science) is developing the Center with the assistance of Jenny Jopling and Patrick Pluscht, Associate Directors. The Center staff members include Joseph Hoffmann (Instructional Programmer), Kim Crawford (Administrative Assistant), Jason Holmes and Daniel Knight (Instructional Consultants), Abraham Bencid (Media Specialist), and Mark Withers (Classroom Technology Specialist). Several Center hourly positions will give valuable work experience to students in online course production and room coordination for videoconferencing.
