New UNT Search Engine

By Shane Jester, Central Web Support

The UNT Website now has a new and improved search engine.  The engine is currently in beta testing and can be located at http://www.unt.edu/webinfo/htdig/ . The engine is powered by ht://Dig, a GNU product located at http://www.htdig.org.

Key Features:

  • Meta Tag Support - Words placed in meta tags will be given precedence in index
  • Variable Sorting Styles - by time, title, score, reverse
  • Configurable Search Results - long or short format and variable match patterns
  • Indexing of HTML and text files
  • Standard Robot Exclusion

Be aware that only those sites linked to an indexed Website on campus will be indexed by the search engine. The search engine currently indexes over forty different Websites on campus and is powered by a 300 Megabyte database.

If your Website does not appear in the search results contact Central Web Support to confirm that your Website is being indexed. Feel free to send any comments to www@unt.edu
