Degree Requirements

1. Hours Required and General/College Requirements: A minimum of 128 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as specified in the "General University Requirements " in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Arts and Sciences requirements.

2. Major requirements: 44 hours of music including MUTH 1400, 1410, 1500, 1510, 2400, 2410, 2500 and 2510; MUMH 1600, 3500, 3510, and 3 hours of 4000-level music history (MUMH); plus 4 semester hours in applied music performance, concentration level (MUAC).

3. Other Course Requirements: None.

4. Minor: Optional.

5. Electives: See four-year plan.

6. Other requirements: Students must pass the Piano Proficiency Examination and the Theory Proficiency Examination, and must complete 8 hours of music laboratory courses.

Teacher Certification

Bachelor of Arts candidates seeking certification to teach secondary public school music also must follow the program outlined in the College of Music section of this catalog.

Teacher certification requirements were under review by the State Board for Educator Certification at the time this catalog went to press. Contact the Department of Teacher Education and Administration for current information.
