Supplemental Information for BFA with a Major in Drawing and Painting Portfolio Reviews for Drawing and Painting Majors Students in drawing and painting are expected to demonstrate: -competence in handling of media, including craftsmanship, composition, and formal design elements; -a high level of work which demonstrates an understanding of contemporary strategies and seriousness about personal development as artists; -general knowledge of art history and articulation of contemporary art issues in connection with their own work. Mid-Point Review During their enrollment in ART 3000, drawing and painting majors must present a portfolio of work for review by a panel of faculty. The review will occur each semester, shortly after mid-semester. Students will exhibit 15-20 pieces of work that demonstrate their ability to draw from observation. Most of the work should have been produced in ART 3000, but some work that represents the studentıs best efforts from previous classes may be included. Work should be appropriately presented. Five works may be in slide form. Students must pass sophomore portfolio review in order to enroll in any drawing and painting courses beyond ART 3000. Students who do not pass the review may request permission to resubmit work for review on the counseling day immediately preceding the next registration. Failing this, the student may initiate one further review which will be allowed by specific arrangement with an adviser and at the convenience of the drawing and painting faculty. Transfer Credits Transfer students must submit work for review when they are counseled preceding their initial registration at UNT. Senior Exit Review Graduating seniors, during enrollment in their final long semester of ART 4802, Painting Studio, will present their work at mid-semester for an exit review. The work should be prepared as a one-person show; if the show is not actually hung, the following required work will be presented to the faculty: - 15 pieces of a related body of work; - statement of aesthetic philosophy which incorporates art historical context and articulation of the body of work with current art issues; - 10 good slides of the studentıs work. If students do not pass the midsemester exit review, they may request an additional review at the end of the semester. Students who fail to meet any of the review criteria by the end of the semester will not pass the final ART 4802 class, and must repeat the course and pass the exit review prior to graduation. Results Record of success in passing the senior exit review will be furnished to the student and recorded for the School of Visual Arts.
