Faculty members are currently studying market micro-structures in the financial markets, methodologies used in financial research with emphasis on event-study methodologies, credit unions and bank failures, information changes and their effects on stock returns, the effects of changes in accounting information on international stock prices, dividends captive by corporations, tax clientele effects, the impact of changes in environmental regulations on real estate values, AIDS and its impact on housing markets, an international index for commercial real estate values, farmland valuation, the impact of risk management on the value of the firm, the impact of major natural disasters on property and casualty insurance companies, the insurance implications of the legal definition of death and the rights of employers to terminate "whistle-blowing" employees.
The department has available to graduate students doing research the CRSP, Compustat, Valueline and Citibase data tapes.
2. The Harwood and Jacobus Scholarship for $500 is awarded to a worthy student through a national competition. During the last four years, this scholarship has been received by UNT real estate majors.
3. The Dallas Board of Realtors Commercial and Industrial Real Estate (CID) Scholarship for $1,000 is awarded to a distinguished student through a statewide competition. UNT real estate majors received this scholarship in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.
4. The American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers Annual Scholarship for $5,000 is awarded to an outstanding graduate or undergraduate student through a national competition.
5. The Society of Real Estate Appraisers Education Trust offers a number of student internship grants to provide graduate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to work part-time in a real estate appraisal office and, at the same time, to receive degree credit for the experience.
2. The Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) annually awards a scholarship of $750 to a worthy insurance student.
2. A $100 departmental scholarship is awarded to a PhD student each semester.
3. A $200 scholarship in international finance is awarded each semester.
