4330. Senior Theory (Orchestration). 3 hours. Basic ranges and transpositions; transcribing and arranging for instruments. Prerequisite(s): MUTH 2390 and 2490. For non-composition majors.
4340. Senior Theory (Composition). 3 hours. Beginning problems in composition; composition and study of 20th-century styles and techniques. Prerequisite(s): MUTH 2390 and 2490. For non-composition majors.
4430. Orchestration. 3 hours. Original works for orchestra, wind ensemble and full band. Score study and rehearsal attendance required. Prerequisite(s): MUCP 3430. Primarily for composition majors.

5590. Intermedia Performance Seminar. 1-3 hours. Production of and performance in individual and group projects in the presentation of intermedia compositions, emphasizing computer music media and utilizing the resources of the New Music Performance Lab and the Intermedia Theater. Open to graduate students in music and other arts, radio and television. Assigned credit hours are determined in audition/interview by instructor prior to enrollment, based on the scope of the proposed project and the degree of individual student responsibility for course project(s).

6110. Composition: Advanced Computer Music Systems I. 3 hours. Computer-assisted composition requiring the completion and documentation of a project that demonstrates original research in compositional algorithms. Prerequisite(s): two semesters of MUCP 5700.
6120. Composition: Advanced Computer Music Systems II. 3 hours. Computer-assisted composition requiring the completion and documentation of a project that demonstrates original research in digital and analog conversion systems for discrete-time waveform synthesis. Prerequisite(s): MUCP 6110.
6130. Seminar in Instrumental Writing. 3 hours. Instrumental techniques that have bearing on composition; analysis of instrumental works; actual composition. Restricted to students who have been admitted to the DMA or PhD program in composition.
6140. Seminar in Choral Writing. 3 hours. Choral techniques that have bearing on composition; analysis of choral works; actual composition. Restricted to students who have been admitted to the DMA or PhD program in composition.
6150. Analysis of Contemporary Music. 3 hours. Techniques and styles of composers determined by analysis of representative works; related literature, books and articles by composers, theorists and musicologists.
6410. Twentieth-Century Contrapuntal Techniques.
3 hours. Review of structural principles of polyphonic writing from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Analytical studies of 20th-century works that demonstrate expansion or extension of these principles. Original written projects are required. Prerequisite(s): satisfactory score on the Graduate Placement Examination or MUTH 5381, 5382 and 5383.
