Department of Criminal Justice
The School of Community Service has filed a reorganization plan with the Higher Education Coordinating Board to change the way academic units are named and organized within the school. This change has been made because of the growth of these academic programs and to make it easier for students to find these units in university publications. Proposed changes submitted are reflected in the School of Community Service section of this catalog.

Introduction
The Department of Criminal Justice coordinates and directs the program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in criminal justice.

Major in Criminal Justice Degree Requirements
Candidates for the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Criminal Justice and with career interests in law enforcement, corrections, or criminal justice administration must meet the following requirements.
1. Hours for the Degree: Completion of a minimum of 128 total semester hours and 24 of the last 30 hours must be completed at UNT; a minimum of 42 hours must be advanced, including at least 12 hours of advanced work in the major and 24 of the 42 advanced hours which must be completed at UNT.
2. General University Requirements: See "General Degree Requirements" in the Academics section of this catalog.
3. General Academic Requirements for Degree (including University Core Curriculum): Minimum of 55 hours. See "Summary of Degree Requirements" for each degree for exact hours.
4. Major Requirements: Major of 63 hours, including 30 hours of criminal justice courses and 33 hours of supporting courses.
5. Electives: 10 hours (plus 3 additional elective hours for students in corrections curriculum).

Minor in Criminal Justice
A minor requires completion of 18 semester hours in criminal justice, including CJUS 3060 and 4820, and 12 additional hours of criminal justice courses.
