A major in theatre arts requires 45 semester hours: THEA 1042, 1043, 1044, 1045, 3150, 3340, 4250, 4300 and, in consultation with an adviser from the theatre arts faculty, 18 hours (at least 9 advanced) from one of the following groups.
Students majoring in theatre arts must enroll in THEA 3910 each semester the student performs in public productions sponsored or approved by the department, or in THEA 3920 if the student serves as a technician for these productions.
Other Requirements: A minimum grade of C is required for all theatre arts courses. A minimum grade of B is required for the comprehensive examination and the artistic presentation. Transfer work to be substituted for required theatre arts courses must be approved by a student's faculty adviser during the degree plan process.
DRED (Traffic Safety) courses may not be used to satisfy any portion of a degree in the College of Arts and Sciences.
A written departmental comprehensive examination is required during the long semester that immediately follows the semester or summer term in which a theatre arts major completes 90 hours of college-level courses or 36 hours of theatre arts courses. A minimum grade of B is required on this examination.
An artistic presentation is required during one or more long semesters after a theatre arts major has completed 90 hours of college-level courses or 30 hours of theatre arts courses. The presentation may consist of (1) a solo or duet acting performance not less than 30 or more than 60 minutes in length, (2) an independent directing project or (3) an independent design project. A minimum grade of B is required on this presentation.
