Portfolio Reviews for Fibers Majors
Students who major in fibers are expected to demonstrate:
During the first semester of enrollment in ART 4811, Weaving Studio, or ART 4812, Fabric Design Studio, students working toward a major in fibers must present work for review by a committee of art faculty. The review is held once each regular semester in approximately the 12th week of class.
A significant number of actual pieces must be shown, with a minimum requirement of one piece from each fibers class completed. Work presented must demonstrate competence in fibers, but the committee also will expect to see selected work from other art courses in order to ascertain a broad involvement and development in art. There may be a written or oral examination on basic fibers techniques.
Students who fail the first review will not be allowed to enroll in additional upper division fibers courses until satisfactory completion of the review. They may be required to take or repeat a course that the committee feels might improve the quality of their work.
Transfer students who have completed fibers courses at other schools must submit work for review when they are counseled preceding their initial registration at UNT.
A portfolio or final review is required of all seniors in the School of Visual Arts to determine that basic competencies in the major have been met. The work of a graduating senior will be reviewed during the student's final enrollment in ART 4811, Weaving Studio, or ART 4812, Fabric Design Studio. Graduating seniors should identify themselves to their instructor during the first week of class.
The student will prepare a show; if the show is not hung, the student will be required to show work to the faculty. The presentation must include:
Students who fail the review will be required to repeat ART 4811 or 4812 and the review process in order to graduate.
Record of success in passing the review will be furnished to the student and recorded for the School of Visual Arts.
