School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management Folding Key

1. Understanding of Ideas and Values: Choose from the approved list. See "University Core Curriculum Requirements" in the Academics section of this catalog. SMHM 4750 (required on degree) satisfies Group III, Diversity in the United States. If student chooses another course, 3 hours are added to degree.

2. Visual and Performing Arts: Choose from the approved list. See "University Core Curriculum Requirements" in the Academics section of this catalog.

3. English courses must be sequenced as follows: ENGL 1310, 2210, 2220, 2700.

4. Fall offering only.

5. Spring offering only.

6. Student must complete ENGL 1310 and 2700, ECON 1100 and 1110, MATH 1100, BCIS 2610, and ACCT 2020 and 2030 and have a minimum of 45 hours completed before being allowed to enroll in the required upper division business courses. ACCT 2020 and 2030 must have grades of "C" or better.

7. Take either SMHM 3920 or 4220; three hours of electives are taken the opposite semester.

SMHM 2750 (required on degree) satisfies Group II, Crosscultural and Global Studies. SMHM 4750 (required on degree) satisfies Group III, Diversity in United States. If student chooses one or two other courses, 3-6 hours are added to degree.

9. English courses must be sequenced as follows: ENGL 1310, 2210, 2220, 2700.

10. Student must complete ENGL 1310 and 2700, ECON 1110, MATH 1100, BCIS 2610, and ACCT 2020, and have a minimum of 45 hours completed before being allowed to enroll in the required upper division business courses.

11. Select laboratory sciences from BIOL 1110/1115 or 1120/1125 or 1130/1135; CHEM 13104;
PHYS 1210.

12. Select 3 hours from SMHM 2490, 4000, 4450, 4660.

13. Select 3 hours from MKTG 4010, 4040, 4120, 4260, 4280, 4650 or ACCT 2030.

14. Other choices for biology would be: BIOL 1120/1125, Plant and Environmental Biology; BIOL 1130/1135, Environmental Science; or BIOL 2370, Applied Human Physiology.

15. SMHM 3500 (Advanced Field Experience) to be taken student's last spring semester with a total of no more than 12 hours.

16. Or 3 advanced hours in American Government.

17. After taking ART 2440, a pass/fail portfolio review must be passed to continue with ART 3310 and 3320.

18. This degree program requires completion of 6 hours during summer. A maximum of 6 hours may be taken during Summer Term I or Summer Term II.

19. Restricted electives to be chosen from SMHM 4000, 4660; MKTG 4010, 4040, 4120, 4260, 4280; MGMT 3860; JOUR 2010, 2020, 2310, 2320.

20. SMHM 3500, Advanced Field Experience in Merchandising may be taken during the summer. If SMHM 3500 is scheduled during a fall or spring semester, the student should not take more than a total of 12 hours that semester.

21. PHED 1000, Principles and Practices of Health Fitness (2 hours); DANC 1100, Stress Reduction Through Movement (3 hours); PSYC 2580, Health Psychology (3 hours); or SMHM 1450, Principles of Nutrition (3 hours). Two hours (maximum) of wellness courses will count toward degree. SMHM 1450, Principles of Nutrition (required on degree) satisfies this requirement.

22. Advanced American/Texas History courses may be substituted. See "Supplemental Information for BA with a Major in History" in the College of Arts and Sciences section of this catalog for a list of approved advanced U. S. History options (Group A).
