Tim Powers, J.D.

Biographical Sketch

Criminal defense attorney Tim Powers graduated cum laude (Juris Doctor) from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans.  He also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration.   He is currently the managing attorney of a successful criminal defense law firm in Denton.

A former Assistant District Attorney and Chief Misdemeanor Prosecutor, Powers was voted 1997 Denton County Prosecutor of the Year. He has experience in over 5,000 DWI, drug, assault / family violence, divorce and family law cases in North Texas. Tim Powers served as a legal intern at the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and former sitting Municipal Court Judge in Denton County.  Powers is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Denton County Bar Association.

Powers is an experienced legal analyst and commentator for various local media newscasts including FOX 4 Good Day.  In addition to his regular appearances on Fox 4 Good Day, he has appeared on NBC5’s Weekend Today, NBC5 News at Four, and The WB33 News at Nine.  He has extensive radio experience. Powers has appeared on WBAP, Texas State Network, KRLD, KLLI’s The Russ Martin Show and is currently a  legal analyst for Fox Radio News and KTAR (Phoenix).  In addition, he hosted Powers of Attorney, a legal talk show on KRLD, and was the resident legal expert and guest host for The Marty Griffin Show heard weeknights on KRLD (2001-2006). He is often quoted in print including The Dallas Morning News, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Denton Record-Chronicle and Texas Lawyer.
