Subcommittee Reports

Student Computing Committee
Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner reported that the Student Computing Committee has not met.

Mac OS X Support
Rich Anderson reported that the committee will meet before the next DCSMT meeting.

Dead Accounts in GroupWise
Allen Bradley requested that GroupWise accounts for users who are no longer employed at UNT be deleted.  Problems, in particular, occur when "everyone" messages are posted.  (This request came as a result of an inquiry from a TIP$ request.

Smartforce Server and Access
Elizabeth Hinkle-Turner presented a demonstration of Smartforce computer based training opportunities.  All user accounts (excluding HSC students) are preloaded and can also be added manually.  CD's are also available.  See http://www.unt.edu/smartforce/ for more information.

New Business
Rich Anderson reported that a new classroom lab is operating.

Pam Hight reported that Remedy notifications were not being received (they were being sent to EagleMail addresses).  To alleviate the problem, profiles were changed.  Pam also asked if there was a standard on the use of browsers and the consensus was that there is no standardization of IE or Netscape.

Gary Mathews reported that he's preparing lab and classroom work stations for the fall.

Bruce Pollock reported that he will be moving to the Gateway Center, and, that web based ticket purchasing for athletic events is now available.

Maurice reported that the RFP for the EIS project was released last Thursday.  After the RFP's are returned a decision may be made as early as December.  Maurice also reported that a software vendors conference was held last week. Several companies including PeopleSoft and Oracle attended.

Mike Hatch reported that problems with NDPS have been resolved.  Lab and classroom machines will be upgraded to Windows 2000 at a later date.

Paul Hons reported that labs are being prepared for the fall.  Windows 2000 will be installed.

Tim Christian reported that a new CAS educational computing training program for student employees is underway.  Student employees will be trained to become effective fulltime computing support staff.

Maurice reported that the EduTex 2002 site is up.  The next conference will be held February 20-22, 2002 in Austin, Tx..  Proposals for presentations are now being accepted.

Jim Curry reported that RAM is now $36 for 256mg.  IDOs will be accepted until 12:00 pm on August 31.

Bill Buntain reported that the deal to connect DISD fell through due to budget cuts.  Data Communications is working on a connection to the University Courtyard and migrating SCD to the AHE connection in Dallas.

Chris Strauss reported that there were no objections to migrating anecdote to SQL 2000.

Allen Bradley reported that A. McGregor and R. Galloway terminated employment.  Support calls should be routed to Jason Gutierrez.

Mike Wright reported that he's still waiting to receive the contract for the Microsoft Campus Agreement from the Attorney's office.  Microsoft has agreed to backdate the contract to September 1.
